Rufus Publications is proud to announce the publication of Deep Purple The Visual History by Chris Charlesworth.

Renowned music journalist Charlesworth has revised his original text from the 1983 edition of his book and added new Introduction and Aftermath chapters. The new-look book has been completely redesigned and expanded to over 500 colour pages and now incorporates hundreds of photographs and images, some seen for the first time, including a series of unpublished images from the Made In Japan concerts from 1972. The book is roughly the size of a vinyl LP.

Researched in 1982 through original interviews with members of Deep Purple, the book covers the period between the band’s formation in 1968 through to their eventual break-up in 1976. Forthright and remarkably detailed, it is the ultimate treasure trove of the era when Deep Purple established their legendary status.

Says Charlesworth: “Over the years I’ve been asked over and over again by fans how they could get hold of my Deep Purple book. It disappeared from the shelves because the printers in Japan – like the Casino in Montreux – burned to the ground, taking the film for the book with it. But now, finally, here it is again, new and improved, with more pictures and more text. I hope you like it.”

THE STANDARD EDITION:

A 300mm square, hardback book with a printed cover, presented in a cloth-bound slipcase.

yes, I agree with what is written above.
there are a lot of new photographs (especially of Mark 1 !!), but many of them do not have captions (where and when it were taken).
and the old text (of 1983) is also a minus.
anyway it's a Good book.

This is an updated version of the 1983 book and while it has more pics, some of the mistakes of the original aren't corrected.
Such as saying "Holy Man" was performed on the Stormbringer tour and that the setlist for the CTTB tour would include 3 Bolin songs( only one was performed in Asia and a different in the US/UK) Also it said Space Truckin was played (it wasn't) and doesn't mention Lazy, which was played. All in all this is a very good overview of DP's career and I loved the section on the California Jam.

Bloodsucker!! 17/01/2024

This is by far, Rufus best book. Packed. With information and pics.Bravo!!

The Deep Purple book arrived on Friday and totally freaked out my mother when she opened it. Just flipping through some pages at random, Mom must have said a half-dozen times "I've never seen this picture before! How could I have followed this band for over 50 years and still learn new things?!" So, delays aside, you folks delivered a fantastic addition to a happy old rockers' music & memorabilia collection. Thank you very much for helping me maintain my rank as "Number One Son."
